Whoever hung a noose in Bubba Wallace’s garage stall should be permanently banned from any active involvement in motorsports.

Yesterday, the day the GEICO 500 NASCAR Cup Series race had originally been rescheduled for until rain postponed the event to today, a noose was found hanging in the Talladega Superspeedway garage stall of driver Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, Jr.

NASCAR officials have, as of this writing, not yet found the perpetrator of the noose hanging in Wallace’s garage stall, although NASCAR has promised to permanently ban whoever was responsible for the heinous act. Furthermore, the FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the incident.

Let me make this perfectly clear: whoever hung a noose in Bubba’s garage stall should be permanently banned from having any active involvement in any form of motorsports. Hanging nooses to intimidate black Americans has a long and dark history, and, even though NASCAR has, in these troubling times, sought to make itself a more inclusive organization, there is, and probably always will be, a segment of the NASCAR can base that holds an extremely racist view of society.

I stand with Bubba. Period.
